Orchid Flower Care
December 3rd, 2007
If you want to provide your orchid with ideal orchid flower care, you should start by finding out its natural home and the conditions in that part of the world. The key to proper orchid care is to mimic the environment in which your specific orchid species has evolved. Ideal Cattleya orchid care will for instance involve keeping the temperature in the 75-85? F (24-29? C) range during the day and then make it drop down to 60-65? F (15.5-18? C) during the night. This will mimic the tropical regions of South and Central America where you can find wild Cattleya orchids. Dendrobium orchids come from an entirely different part of the world, but they actually prefer roughly the same temperature ranges as the Cattleya orchids. This is because the tropical regions of South and Central America are quite similar to the tropical parts of Asia and Australia when it comes to temperature.
Finding the ideal Dendrobium orchid care when it comes to watering can be tricky, because these species live in several different environments. A species adapted to the dry Australian desert will not have the same watering preferences as a Dendrobium orchid hailing from a wet lowland tropical forest in Asia. It is therefore important to check up the requirements for your specific species instead of following general guidelines when it comes to watering.
